AFO Active MAXI, lower leg and foot orthosis (AFO Joint Plus)

  • Increased muscle tone causes significant misalignment of the joint axis, metatarsus, and forefoot.
  • Excessive plantar flexion leads to toe walking and, consequently, to Achilles tendon contracture.
  • Achilles tendon contracture preventing verticalization.
  • Weak dorsiflexion of the foot due to paralysis or flaccid paresis.

  • The orthosis corrects the alignment of the foot relative to the lower leg, counteracts joint axis misalignment, and restores functional movement.
  • The adjustable MAXI joint hinges are available in a version allowing selective flexion and extension or limiting plantar flexion.
  • Prevents Achilles tendon contractures and flexed foot positioning.
  • Prevents the development of deformities in mainly seated and bedridden patients, providing joint stabilization during verticalization and at night.
  • The Extra Comfort option ensures pressure relief in sensitive areas, minimizing the risk of abrasions and pressure marks in the foot and ankle region.

  • Two-layer orthosis design. The soft and flexible inner layer provides greater comfort and fit. The stiffer outer layer ensures durability and structural strength.
  • The orthosis is equipped with an adjustable ankle joint hinge regulated using the included Allen key. The hinge enables variable movement at the ankle joint.

POSITIONING

  • The hinge allows immobilization of the ankle joint in any position, ranging from maximum plantar flexion (foot dorsiflexion deficit, no neutral position, Achilles tendon contracture) to maximum dorsiflexion.
  • Designed primarily for seated or bedridden patients. It enables verticalization in patients with Achilles tendon contracture or prevents further limitation of range of motion due to increased muscle tone or spasticity. In cases of significant plantar flexion, the height deficit between the heel and the ground may be compensated with a wedge. This solution ensures stable full-foot support.

STRETCHING / CORRECTION

  • Includes the above-described hinge properties and allows smooth adjustment and, consequently, modification of the range of motion in the joint.
  • Enables gradual adjustment of the orthosis positioning to the patient’s functional condition, following improvements achieved through manual therapy, pharmacological treatment (botulinum toxin therapy), or orthopedic intervention.

WALK / GAIT

  • Limits plantar flexion of the foot while maintaining a full, unrestricted range of dorsiflexion. It allows adjustment of foot position relative to the lower leg to correct knee hyperextension.
